Over the last few years, I have observed many abused and neglected children who have journeyed through their own healing process with Heather Wilkerson as their guide. Her passion for helping children and families, coupled with her love of horses, has led to a unique therapeutic Equine Assisted approach to communication and problem solving that provides her clients with opportunities for new beginnings and new insight into their circumstances as they prepare to live life to their fullest potential. This specialized approach has been effective for many children when traditional outpatient therapy and other interventions have failed to engage them in the therapeutic process. She is well respected and her recommendations are well received by the Courts when decisions are being weighed on behalf of this vulnerable population of children who have come to the attention of the Court through no fault of their own.

In addition to individual and family counseling services, Heather Wilkerson also provides retreats for community groups, women and families that encourage positive life transformation through a combination of individual exercises, group discussions, and small learning teams. Through the integration of horses into therapy, retreats and corporate team building, individuals are able to learn the importance of trust, communication, problem solving and assertiveness as they experience personal growth and create fresh vision for their lives.

Heather Wilkerson is a jewel to Fayetteville, Cumberland County and the surrounding area. She has accomplished more personally and professionally than most people can boast for a lifetime, all under the age of forty. She is engaged in the community and is invested in doing her part to facilitate positive growth and change in all of her endeavors. Heather Wilkerson is indeed a mentor to her peers and friends as she sets an exemplary example of how a person can find love, joy and passion in their personal and professional life. She has a tremendous amount of gifts to give to this community. It is an honor to nominate this young lady for such a prestigious award, and she is more than deserving of the recognition.
